Meet James Dougherty

My name is James Dougherty. I have lived in Carlisle since August of 1973 and this community has shaped who I am both personally and professionally. I am an honorably discharged United States Navy veteran, and the discipline, responsibility, and attention to detail I learned through military service continue to guide how I run my business today.

I sold my first shingle roof at the age of seventeen in 1986. That early experience sparked a lifelong career in roofing and home improvement. Over the years, I worked hands-on in the field, learning how roofs perform in real conditions and what separates a roof that lasts from one that fails too soon.

In January of 2003, I officially founded James Dougherty Home Improvements and Roofing. My goal was to create a company that customers could trust for straightforward service, dependable results, and fair pricing. That goal has not changed.

A Life Rooted In The Carlisle Community

Carlisle is more than our service area. It is home. I am married and have been for twenty nine years, and my wife and I have two sons. I attended Carlisle High School, where I played football and baseball and ran cross country. Later, I coached little league for several years in North Middleton, staying involved with the community and its families.

Outside of work, I enjoy fishing and hunting, and I follow football, baseball, and basketball closely. These interests and experiences keep me connected to the people I serve. Many of our customers are neighbors, former teammates, or referrals from families who have known us for years.

Experience For Every Project

James Dougherty Home Improvements and Roofing has completed hundreds of shingle roofing projects, along with a wide range of other roofing and exterior improvement jobs. Our experience includes asphalt shingle roofing, metal roofing, rubber roofing, and flat roof systems such as EPDM.

We have also handled siding, windows, decks, additions, power washing, painting, gutter cleaning, and more. Our project history ranges from very small tasks like changing a light bulb or replacing smoke alarm batteries to large-scale renovations involving a new roof, siding, windows, painting, fencing, and a full addition.

Proven Storm Damage Experience

Between 2010 and 2012, our company completed close to one million dollars in hail storm damage work. That period gave us extensive experience evaluating storm related roof damage, identifying hidden issues, and performing repairs or replacements that restored long term protection.

Storm damage is not always obvious from the ground. We understand how wind, hail, and heavy rain affect different roofing materials over time. When we inspect a roof, we look beyond surface issues and explain our findings clearly so property owners can make informed decisions.

James Dougherty Home Improvements and Roofing is fully licensed and insured. We take safety seriously for our crew, our customers, and their property. We use quality materials designed for Pennsylvania weather and proven installation methods that follow best practices.

Attention to detail matters. Proper flashing, ventilation, underlayment, and fastening are essential for roof performance. We focus on these details because they directly affect how long a roof lasts and how well it protects a home or business.

Our minimum service charge is one hundred dollars, and we are transparent about pricing and scope of work.
